Easy Coffee Table Restore

We found this coffee table on the side of the road. You can see the potential. I decided to give it a new life. This is a coffee table restore but it can be replicated with a lot of furniture.

People throw good furniture out all the time.

Get in the habit of taking the long way home and see what you can find.

This is the table at the start of it. You cannot see from this angle but the table is also missing parts from the middle. It is more visible in the 3rd picture.

The first step was to sand it down. This is easy with an orbital sander. It can also be done 3 hours longer with a sanding block.

After sanding I applied edge banding to around the table. Edge banding is used a lot in furniture and gives it a nice finished look.

I applied it with an iron. As you apply heat the glue on the inside of the edge banding melts and sticks.

You can see the locations where it was missing pieces. Luckily, Those pieces were left with the furniture so I was able to glue them back in place.

Here is a picture of the edge banding finished.

It also shows the fixed parts. I used wood glue to repair those parts.

Next step was to stain the top. you might want to mask off the sides so that the stain doesn’t run.

I didn’t have a picture but I painted the bottom white and gave it a very worn look which turned out nicely.

Here is the finished product. Including my dog Murphy.

He approves of the coffee table restore.
